Nation's Prayer was first written as a folk song by Anthony
Sacco in the summer of 2005. Anthony sent it to Dan
D'Alio in July 2005 with other original songs that became
the start of their musical relationship.
"I became interested in Nation's Prayer because of the
lyrics", states Dan. "The idea of a candle in the
window, they light it every night, while waiting for a loved
one to return from war, was very moving to me. I felt that
this song could bring out the emotional conflicts and contradictions
that we feel when supporting our country and praying for friends
and loved ones to return home".
All of the instruments in Nation's Prayer are played by Dan
except the field drums, drum set, lead vocal and lead guitar.
"The evolution of this song is extreme to say the least.
Tom Liberatore's screaming guitar was the icing on the production,"
states Dan. "I wanted conflicting emotions throughout
the song and Tom's fluid and powerful guitar lines provided
the emotional roller coaster I was looking for."
The interlude, a unique version of America the Beautiful
using relative minor chording, elevates the song to cinematic
status and provides the dramatic impact Dan wanted. "I
wanted to be as patriotic as possible while at the same time
evoking a sense of tragedy and uncertainty," states Dan.
"The field snare played by veteran percussionist Wayne
Cardarelli provided just the right military backdrop necessary
to give this piece the seriousness that it needed."
